Capsule ("we", "our", or "us") is an app for creating shared, time-locked capsules of memories with friends. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

The controller of your personal data is Geostormers. You can reach us at info@geostormers.com.
What we collect
- Account information — your display name and username when you register, your email address, and a phone number if you choose to add one.
- Sign-in details — if you sign in with Apple or Google, the account identifier they give us so we can recognise you next time. If you sign in with email, a securely hashed version of your password.
- Fragments — the photos, videos, audio, notes, songs, and places you add to a capsule, along with any captions and location details (place name and coordinates) you attach to them.
- Profile photo — the avatar image you upload, if you choose to.
- Contacts — when you look for friends by contacts, the phone numbers you check are matched against existing accounts. We use them only to find matches and do not store your contact list.
- Notification tokens — if you allow notifications, the push token for your device, so we can tell you when a capsule is about to unlock or someone comments.
- Reports and blocks — when you report content, we store what you reported, the reason you gave, any details you wrote, and a copy of the reported content so it stays reviewable if it is later deleted. We also store who you have blocked.
How we use it
- To operate the app and store the capsules and fragments you create.
- To let you share capsules with the members you invite and connect with friends.
- To display your public profile — display name, username, and avatar — to your friends and to members of capsules you belong to.
- To send you notifications and account emails, such as password resets.
- To moderate the service — reviewing reports, acting on content that breaks our Terms, and keeping people safe.
Legal bases
If you are in the EU or UK, we rely on these grounds: performance of a contract, to run the app and deliver your capsules to the members you invite; your consent, for access to your contacts and for push notifications, either of which you can withdraw in your device settings; our legitimate interests, in moderating the service, preventing abuse, and keeping the app secure; and legal obligation, where the law requires us to retain or disclose something.
What we don't do
- We do not sell your data to third parties.
- We do not use your data for advertising.
- We do not share your fragments with anyone beyond the members you invite to your capsules and the limited cases described in this policy.
Moderation access
Sealed capsules stay private from other users until their unlock date, and we do not browse them. Moderators can access the contents of a capsule — including a sealed one — only when it has been reported, when we have reasonable grounds to suspect our Terms are being broken or that someone is at risk, or where the law requires it. Reviewing a capsule does not unlock it for its members.
Data retention
Your capsules and fragments are retained for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account and its data at any time from Account settings in the app, or by emailing us.
Two things are worth knowing about deletion. Deleting your account also deletes the capsules you own, including fragments other members added to them. And if we suspend an account for breaking our Terms, we keep it and its reports rather than deleting it. We do so on the basis of our legitimate interest in preventing abuse.
Reports may be retained after the reported content is deleted so we can act on repeat behaviour.
Your rights
If you are in the EU or UK, you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to have inaccurate data corrected, to have your data erased, to receive a copy in a portable format, to object to or restrict processing that relies on our legitimate interests, and to withdraw consent at any time where we rely on it.
You can exercise most of these in the app: edit your details in Account settings, and delete everything from the same screen. For anything else, email info@geostormers.com and we will respond within one month.
Security
All data is transmitted over HTTPS. Passwords are stored hashed, never in plain text, and accounts are protected by access tokens. We take reasonable measures to protect your information.
Children
Capsule is not directed at children under 13, and you must be at least 13 to hold an account. In some countries the minimum age for consenting to online services is higher, and in those countries you must be old enough under local law. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
